Fashion Focus #1 : Oscar de la Renta

Hey guys!
I've decided to start a new "series" type thing which I will be posting every Sunday called Fashion Focus. Each post will focus on a different designer or style icon and will hopefully be a fun way to learn more about them and their contribution to fashion. The first post is about Oscar de la Renta who sadly passed away recently, because he was a major influence on the world of fashion as we know it today.

Óscar Arístides Ortiz Renta Fiallo (he changed his name to "de la Renta" later in life) was born in Santa Domingo in the Dominican Republic to a Dominican mother and a Puerto Rican father in 1932 and raised- the only son with six sisters- in a world filled with intellectuals, artists and politicians.

He moved to Madrid In Spain at the tender age of 18 and began studying painting at the Academy of San Fernando, a school that boasts such alumni as Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí. His mother, who suffered from multiple sclerosis shortly thereafter. He began working as an illustrator for some of the biggest fashion houses in Spain to help pay the bills and to prove to his father that he could make a living.

The passion de la Renta had for art and design, coupled with his illustrious social connections enabled him to work as an apprentice with Spain's most famous designer, Criostóbal Balenciaga in Madrid, and as an assistant to Antonio Castillo in Paris. He later credited the years he spent with Balenciaga and Castillo with assisting in defining the feminine and elegant style he was to become so famously known for.

He gained international fame in the 1960s as a couturier to Jacqueline Kennedy and in the 1980s with Nancy Reagan. He also dressed Hilary Clinton in the 1990s,Laura Bush in the 2000s nd Michelle Obama earlier this month.

He then worked with Elizabeth Arden for two years after a friend advised him the ready-to -wear clothing was were the money was. He was featured in Vogue in 1964 and in 1965 he moved to work at Jane Derby, later taking a 30% stake in the company. When Jane died in August of 1965 de la Renta took over the company, originally naming it Oscar de la Renta for Jane Derby but later changing it to his name in 1966.

In 1967 he married Françoise de Langlade, who was the editor of the French vogue and had previously worked at the fashion house of Elsa Schiaparelli. She moved to America to be with her husband and became the editor-at-large for the American vogue. She died of cancer in 1983.

In December of 1989 he married Anne Frances Mannheimer Engelhard an American socialite who was featured in the best dressed hall of fame.

De la Renta became known for his evening wear but he didn't limit himself to that. In 2006 the brand branched out and began designing wedding dresses. The brand also makes fragrances, accessories, homewares, high end sportswear, cosmetic cases, eyewear, furs, jewellery, lingerie, scarves, sleepwear, and menswear. Over the course of his career Oscar has also designed a garden for Lord Jacob Rothschild, uniforms for the Dominican Republics Police Force and a furniture collection  in collaboration with the a duchess of Devonshire.

In conclusion Oscar de la Renta was indisputably one of the best designers fashion has ever seen. His attitude towards his work and his sense of humour enabled him to charm the wealthy and quickly climb his way up the social ladder. I hope that the great work at his label will continue even now that he's gone.

Love you!

P.S. For some reason Blogger won't allow me to add images to this post so I'll fix that later!

April Favourites

Heya!
So it's the 10th of May which means I'm kind of late with this post but I've been super busy! I haven't really been posting recently because my Junior Cert is coming up ans I've been completely swamped! But I promise to start posting regularly as soon as they're over!I will also be posting videos on youtube so I will put the link up here soon! So here we go:
Movie: By far the best movie I have seen this month is Divergent. If you haven't seen this yet then you need to.It is possibly one of the best book to movie adaptations I have ever seen and it was cast perfectly. Initially I had some doubts about Theo James but honestly his chemistry with Shailene Woodley is amazing.
Book: Maze Runner by James Dashner. James Dashner published his first novel in 2004 and I am a huge fan. In my opinion this is one of his best books and I cannot wait for the movie to come out in September as the cast looks awesome. I just hope it doesn't flop as so many booko to movie adaptations have! *fingers crossed*.
Lifesaver: Last month has been super stressful for me and I have the kind of skin that goes "Wait you're stressed? Let me help you with that! Here's a gazillion (did I spell that right?Probably not!) really painful spots!" My mam bought me the Spot on gel from Dead Sea Spa Magik a while back but I've been using it a LOT in  the last month and it's really works. I honestly would have been lost without it.
www.diarydelights.com

Random: Dinosaur sunglasses! Oh yeah, you heard right. I brought sunglasses with dinosaurs on them! I've been obsessed with an app called Wanelo and on it I found an amazingly cool shop called spangled!I fell in love with these glasses and while they are fairly pricey at £28.00 my mother bought them for me as payment for babysitting my brothers....every night...for a week... But it was so worth it! In case you fall in love with them too them you can buy them here - http://www.ohmylovelondon.com/products/spangled-dino-neon-party-sunglasses# or if you don't want to spend that much money on them then Tolly from Tolly Dolly Posh Fashion has done an awesome diy on them which you can see here - http://tollydollyposhfashion.com/2014/04/embellished-dinosaur-sunglasses-diy/ I will definitely be trying this as soon as my exams finish!
Technology: My favourite tech buy this month was an UNDERWATER CAMERA! Seriously exam stuff aside April really was my month! I've been saving up for one of these for ages and I can't wait to try it out!Expect thousands (literally thousands) of underwater pictures as soon as the summer starts!
Makeup: My favourite makeup this month has definitely been the Lipsticks from Rita Ora's Rimmel Collection. They come in a range of amazing colours and are super moisturising which means there's no need to wear a lip balm underneath. They are available for only €7.99 in most pharmacies.
Nail colour:This month I've been loving the new Crushed Crystals nail polishes from Catrice. They look great and they feel pretty cool too. My favourite shade is Call Me Princess. They cost about €3.69 and are available in most pharmacies.
de.paperblog.com
Hair: I have recently discovered the brand Not Your Mother's and have fallen completely in love. My favourite product from the brand is the Beach Babe Texturising Sea Salt Spray. It gives you amazing beach style waves without any heat and it takes about 5 minutes to use.
Song: My favourite song this month was Problem- Ariana Grande ft. Iggy Azalea! If you've heard this song then you'll know why it's my fave and if you haven't well then...listen to it! Seriously you won't regret it!
Food: I actually haven't had a favourite food this month but I have been loving the Jones's Sodas especially in Bubblegum. Not only do they taste great but they all have different but really cute pictures on them that have been sent in by people from all over the globe!
Blogger: My favourite blogger this month was Sarah from http://sincerelysarahd.blogspot.ie/. She has an amazing style and is well worth a visit!
That's all for this months favourites but don't forget.....

#BloggersDoItBetter First Post #BloggersDoSpringBetter

#BloggersDoItBetter is a project started by Gemma Louise over at touchofbelle.blogspot.co.uk. Basically the idea is that a load of bloggers blog about the same thing on the same day. I'm kinda nervous about this as it's the first post and I honestly have no idea what kind of posts Gemma Louise is hoping for.The topic is #bloggersdospringbetter which is pretty awesome. So here goes....

Spring is my second favourite season (after summer!) because for me it's like the world comes alive. Not just the general world but the fashion and beauty world aswell. I'm one of those people that breaks out the pastels and florals as soon as I can get away with it. I've decided to break this post into four parts: spring fashion, spring beauty, spring nails and spring love.

1) Spring Fashion: Spring is possibly my favourite fashion season. I love pastels, florals and bright colours so much so here are some of my favourite things to wear during the spring:

Pastels Jeans: I love the soft delicate colour of these jeans. My favourite pair of pastel jeans are lemon yellow ones I bought in Penneys recently. I think they were €10 so if you haven't got them yet,go! They are a necessity as they go with EVERYTHING!

Neon shoes and bags: I love bright colours but sometimes they can be in your face and hard to wear. But you can never go wrong with brightly coloured shoes and bags. They can give even the most simple of outfits the "wow" factor and they'll turn heads, but in a good way!

I love the way these shoes incorporate four different neon colours and still look amazing!

A neon clutch is the perfect way to brighten up any outfit.

www.hipgirlie.com
I am completely obsessed with Dr.Martens and these brightly coloured pairs are by far my favourites. Not only do they look awesome they're also extremely pratical aswell!

Floral dresses: I love wearing floral dresses so much! They're both sophisticated and girly and they look great teamed with Dr.Martens and a large floppy hat!
www.aliexpress.com
2)Spring Beauty: Spring is great makeup wise because it gives you a chance to ditch the heavy matt makeup of winter and try something more natural. Here are some of the spring makeup trends that I've been loving:
Colourful Lipstick: Brightly coloured lipstick was all over the spring catwalks this year with orange lipstick perhaps the most prominent. While I do understand that orange lipstick is never going to be everyones cup of tea there's something about it that I love. That being said, my favourite lipstick colour this spring has to be raspberry!
www.aliexpress.com
Blue Eyeshadow: Blue eyeshadow is bang on trend right now. It works with every eye colour but especially compliments brown. It's a great colour and it goes with almost any look!
www.temptalia.com

3)Spring Nail Polish: Nail polish is probably one of my biggest addictions. Unfortunately I'm not one of those people that are amazing at nail art but luckily one of my best friends is. These are some of our favourite nail trends for spring 2014. They incorporate pastels, neons and flowers!Yay!

4)Spring Love: This is pretty much just the things I love about spring!
1)Flowers.
2)The smell of cut grass.
3)Being able to leave the windows open all day.
4)The sun setting later.
5)Fresh lemonade.
6)The feeling of knowing that summers just around the corner.
7)Picnics.
8)Fresh Fruit .
9)Easter.
10)Spring Showers.

I hope you enjoyed this post!Comment and let me know what are your favourite things about Spring! It would make my day if you followed me on bloglovin (button in the sidebar) and twitter (twitter.com/bagshoelemonade ). I will be doing a giveaway when I reach 20 followers! I'm also setting up a youtube channel because some of you requested it on twitter so I will keep you all posted on that! Happy Monday!

The TMI tag! :)

Well hello there.......:)
So yesterday my friend Lucy tagged me in her TMI tag post and seen as I haven't blogged in a while (which I'll explain....soon....hopefully:)) and because you guys don't really know that much about me , I decided to do it for you guys . I got the questions from one of my favourite blogs http://littlemissnerdybookworm.wordpress.com so you can check her post out there.... so yeah here goes:
Too much information!!!
1: What are you wearing? My Marilyn Monroe moustache tee from eleven paris, my black penneys jeans and my new Doc Martens (which I will be posting a review of soon!).
2:Ever been in love?Emmm noooooo.Just noooo.
3:Ever had a terrible breakup?Hmmm well I once broke up with someone, but somehow they didn't know I'd broken up with them so that was awkward but not exactly terrible. So no,not really.
4:How tall are you?5'7" and still growing.
5:How much do you weigh?Emm I don't actually know but if I did I'm not sure I'd write it anyways. But sure.
6:Any tattoos? No.I tend to make decisions and then regret them pretty much straight afterwards so I don't think I'll ever get one.
7:Any piercings?Just one in each ear.I'm thinking of getting another one in each ear though, I'm just kind of afraid it'll get infected like the last one. (yeah that was definitely TMI).
8:OTP? I actually had to google what this meant because I'm not actually in any fandoms (so for all you none fandomers out there it means one true pairing,i.e the couple you like more than anybody else.) So I don't know, maybe Colin Singleton and Lindsey Lee Wells from an abundance of Katherines?I don't know really.
9:Favourite show?I really like the Big Bang Theory, Carrie Diaries and Dance Academy (which I still watch reruns of.Yeah I know. No judgey:)) Oh and Home and Away!Is that a show?Or a soap?Or both?Hmmmm....
10:Favourite bands?: Yay double figures!!Oh yeah, sorry the question. Errr Fallout Boy,The Vamps,Linkin Park and 5 seconds of summer. Although I would be kinda bummed if summer only lasted 5 seconds...
11:Something you miss?Primary school.I don't really know why, I just think everything was so much easier back then. Friendships and stuff get complicated when you reach secondary school.Plus you have way more free time when you're in primary school.
12:Favourite song?Antenna by fuse ODG. It just reminds me so much of the summer and the dance competition was awesome.
13:How old are you?I was 15 in February.
14:Zodiac sign?Well I was born on a cusp (is that even the right term?) but I've always counted myself as Aquarius (No offense pisces)
15:Quality you look for in a partner? I know it's a cliche but a sense of humour. And I hate when guys are pricks to other guys (or girls) to impress other girls (or guys). I'm gonna leave this question before I start ranting about pricks.
16:Favourite quote?Either "Be yourself;everyone else is already taken","If you can't handle me at my worst then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best" or "Friendship is born at the moment when one person says to another 'What! You too? I thought that no one but myself...."
17:Favourite actor? Can it be an actress?Because it's definitely Jennifer Lawrence!
18:Favourite colour?I don't really have one. probably either dark blue, yellow or fuschia pink.I pretty much like most colours to be honest. Except for magnolia.
19:Loud music or soft?In the middle mostly but it depends on my mood and what music I'm listening too.
20:Where do you go when you're sad?I don't really have a "sad place" per se but I would say probably my bedroom because there's no one else there.
21:How long does it take you to shower?About 25 minutes if you include the mosturiser and hair-oil and general beauty stuff I do before and after. But it's okay because we have a toilet downstairs so nobody has to pee themselves. (okay I just read that sentence out loud and realised how wierd it was).
22:How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? Well if it's a school day then about 10 minutes because I just get up put on my tracksuit and togs and go swimming.I usually do my hair and eat breakfast or whatever after training. At the weekends though it can take me 30 to 40 minutes especially if I'm going somewhere.
23:Ever been in a physical fight?Emm yeah. I'm not proud of it but I've been in a few. I've never started a physical fight though. As for whether I won or not; what exactly is the definition of winning a fight?I'm not sure.
24:Turn on?The light because it's getting kinda dark right now. Okay I realise that was wierd but seriously I'm 15.
25:Turn off?The television.Save the planet!....... Again; I'm 15.
26:The reason I joined blogspot? Well I guess I just wanted to start a blog.I've been reading other peoples for 3 years so I just kinda decided to go for it.
27:Fears? People not liking me. I know people are gonna be all like "get over yourself" and "who cares what other people think" but the thing is I do. Obviously I'm not going to do something I wouldn't usually do, or something that's against my beliefs just to make someone like me but that doesn't mean I don't want them too. I am seriously awkward when I meet new people.
28:Last thing that made you cry? Exams. I get really stressed by exams.
29:Last time you said you love someone?  I say it to my parents every night so last night I suppose.
30:Meaning behind your blog name? It seemed like a good idea at the time. It's basically 3 of the things that I love with a comma and some "ands" in between. I know,I know I'm getting way too deep here. Apologies.
31:Last book you read? Maze runner by James Dashner. It's really good and I can't wait for the movie. I just pray they don't ruin it.
32:The book you're currently reading? Will Grayson,Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan.
33:Last show you watched?I'm not sure. Make It Or Break It I think.... anybody else watch it?
34:Last person you talked to? My friend Sophie. Hey Sophie;) *waves to Sophie*
35:Relationship between you and the last person you texted? Well this is a wierd one. *picks up phone* *inputs wrong password* *gets frustrated* *inputs correct password*... and I'm back. The last person I texted was my friend Darragh. Hey Darragh;) *waves to Sophie because she's the only one there*.
37:Place you want to visit? Well everywhere but if I had to choose then Morocco or Australia.
38:Last place you were in? Well I haven't actually left the house today because I'm feeling kind of sick but I did go bowling last night so um LeisureMax.
39:Do you have a crush?Maaybee.
40:Last time you kissed someone? Last night. That's all I'm gonna say.
41:Last time you were insulted? Me: I don't really know.
                                                   Sophie:You're a potato.
Me: Is that meant to be an insult?
                                                   Sophie: I don't know.
So I'm gonna write just now and leave it there.
42:Favourite flavour of sweet? The red ones!!I don't know what flavour they are but I always go for the red sweets, just because. Ooo and the cola ones.
43:What instuments do you play? *takes a deep breath* Tin whistle, flute, piano, button accordian, concertina, fiddle, bodhrán,harp, guitar, drums and bass. Oh and voice (is voice and instrument?I don't know..)
44:Favourite piece of jewellery?
Need I say any more?Thought not.
45:Last sport you played? Well I had swim training this morning. At five o'clock. So yeah that was fun.
46:Last song you sang?Crazy frog last night. No wait Castle On A Cloud. No wait *facepalm* I don't know.

47:Favourite chat up line? I hate chat up lines.
48:Have you ever used it? No.

49:Last time you hung out with anyone?Last night. *hear someone clearing throat* Oh shizzles; right now. Sorry Sophie .
50:Who should answer these questions next? I'm gonna leave this as an open tag. Basically this means if you read this post the you are tagged. Yeah you, the one hiding in the corner.

The #BloggersDoItBetter Challenge!

Gemma from Touch Of Belle is starting a new challenge called The #BloggerDoItBetter Challenge. The idea is that a bunch of bloggers all post about the same topic on the same day. The topic could be anything Gemma has read in a magazine or elsewhere that she thinks bloggers could have written better. It will either be starting on the 31st of March or the 8th of April and I'm really intrigued as to how it will go. To get involved (which you should because you could find some awesome new blogs and meet some awesome new bloggers!) just email your blog URL , email address and name to Gemma at touchofbelle@gmail.com. I can't wait to see how it goes!

March Favourites!

Hey!
I know it's kind of early for a March favourites post but I've kind of been neglecting this blog and I'm gonna be way too busy to do one next week so..... here it is:)
Movie: Okay so the best movie I watched this month was The Hunger Games:Catching Fire. I saw it last year when it came out in the cinemas but my dad brought me back the DVD from London recently and I remembered how much I loved it. If you haven't seen this movie yet then you HAVE to see it. It is one of the best movies I have ever watched (in all my fifteen years, god I'm getting ancient;-) ) And the clothes in it are awesome in far-out, quirky kind of way. WATCH IT!!
Book: The book I'm reading at the moment is Looking For Alaska by John Green.I think the first John Green book I read was An Abundance Of Katherines and I've been hooked ever since. He is honestly one of the best authors out there and his books are indescribable. Looking For Alaska is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read.I literally cannot put into words how amazing it is. Alaska is one of the most compelling characters I have ever seen (well not seen but you get the gist.) Unfortunately I lent my copy out 2 weeks ago and have yet to get it back so.... this isn't my image:)

Lifesaver: Okay so the past month has been pretty busy for me. I'm 15, so I'm currently being subjected to the same torture as hundreds of other 15-16 year olds across Ireland..... The Junior Cert.....:( So as it is I had my mocks this month and my orals and praticals are next week so it's pretty much been all go for me. Because of this, this months "lifesaver" for me is Batiste Dry Shampoo. It works really well but I prefer to put it in at night and leave it in until the next morning. My favourite ones are fresh and blush because they smell really good and I always keep a travel sized one in my bag in case I need it on the go.
Random: So this months random thing I bought is a vanilla reed diffuser from Penneys. I think it cost like €3.50. You just take the stopper off,pop the reeds in and it makes the whole room smell lethal!
Technology: My favourite tech related thing I got this month was a super cute little owl speaker thing. I got this from Vodafone for a 150 cherry points but I think it's about €12.99 if you buy it. It's really cute and it works really well although the battery life is a little short.
Make-up: Okay so technically this is two things but hey, who's counting? The first one is Max-Factor colour adapt foundation. The coverage is amazing and you don't even know you're wearing it. Mine is 40 Creamy Ivory and it's suits my skin tone perfectly. It's not the easiest to apply but it's worth it. I think it cost me about a tenner but I'm not certain. The second thing is something I absolutely swear by, Catrice Mattifying Oil Control Paper. It's not "make-up" per se but it's so good . I use it whenever I do sport. It takes all the shine off my face and I don't have to re-do my make-up. I got mine in Superdrug for €3.50 so it's super affordable too!
Nail Colour: My favourite nail polish this month is Sally Hansen's Insta-Dry in Lightening. The weather's been pretty crap lately so this had brightened up my month:)I got mine in Superdrug for €8.99

Not my picture.
Hair: My favourite hair product this month is the V05 plump it up shampoo and conditioner. I also used V05 smoothly does it heat protect serum before drying or styling my hair. It's really good and it stops your hair from developing split ends.
Music: This month I mainly listened to the chainsmokers : #selfie. It's the catchiest song I've heard in a long time and I literally have not been able to stop singing this. I've been humming it everywhere I go.
Food: We all went through that whole "cake in a cup" phase but to be honest I never really liked it all that much. It just tasted a bit........cakey (Well duh *facepalm*). But my friend gave me the recipe for cookie in a cup at the start of this month and it is delicious. Seriously.Try it.Now.
ngredients

  • 1 Tablespoon Butter
  • 1 Tablespoon Granulated White Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon of firmly packed Dark Brown Sugar
  • 3 Drops of Vanilla Extract
  • Small Pinch of Kosher Salt
  • 1 Egg Yolk (discard the egg white or save for different recipe)
  • Scant ¼ of All Purpose Flour (slightly less than ¼ of a cup)
  • 2 heaping tablespoons of Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
Instructions
  1. Start by melting your butter in the microwave. Butter should just be melted, not boiling.
  2. Add sugars, vanilla and salt. Stir to combine.
  3. Separate your egg and add the yolk only to your cup. Stir to combine.
  4. Add flour, then stir again. Measure a scant, slightly less than full, ¼ cup of all-purpose flour.
  5. Add the chocolate chips, and give a final stir. Now your mixture will look like cookie dough.
  6. Cook in microwave 40-60 seconds, start checking for doneness at 40 seconds. Mine takes 50 seconds. Do not cook past one minute, just like a regular cookie, this will continue cooking as it cools. If the cookie is dry or cake like, try less time.
  7. Serve warm

Recipe from www.number-2-pencil.com
And last but not least...
Blogger: My fave blogger this month was definitely tolly dolly posh. Most of you probably already know her but she's amazing and I love her sense of style. She just started a blogger website too called bundle, check it out it's totally worth joining!

Fun Friday!

Heya! So today I'm going to blog about my five favourite things this week (do I sense a tradition in the making?!). Anyway on with the post!
1)Celebrity of the week: So this weeks celebrity of the week is Jennifer Lawrence. Labelled the "fat chick" of Hollywood, I've always loved how she's not afraid to be herself and doesn't feel the need to resort to starving herself to "fit in" in Hollywood (and she always looks amazing). She blew everyone away at the golden globes with the internet being completely divided on whether or not her Dior dress was hot or not. I for one think it's great that she's not afraid of what other people think of her. She picked up Best Supporting Actress for her role in American Hustle and images of her photobombing Taylor Swift has gone viral. She may have her haters but when it comes down to it you have to admit that the seems like a genuinely lovely person and her genuine confidence is a trait rarely found in Hollywood's elite making her the perfect role model for teenage girls everywhere.
                                          Her controversial Golden Globes dress.
                                                    Photobombing Taylor Swift.
2)Movie of the week: American Hustle.I picked this movie this week because it won 3 golden globes at last weeks awards and because our celebrity of the week Jennifer Lawrence is in it. To honest I don't know that much about it but I'll be writing a review tomorrow after I see it.
3) Outfit of the week: This weeks outfit of the week is casual and comfy. With the week that's in it and the rain that seems like it will never end this outfit is perfect for staying in OR going out.

4)Steal her style of the week:
Taylor Swift rocked this Julien MacDonald dress at the golden globes after party. She teamed it with customised Jimmy Choo shoes and Lorraine Schwartz jewellery and looked awesome as always.
5)Blog of the week:this weeks blog of the week is the life of a fashion nerd,a crazy blog written by a 14 year old called Anna and it's one of the best blogs I've found in a long time. Check it out at thelifeofafashionnerd.blogspot.ie
